Cooking during you overlanding trips means everything, means you can survive mentally and physically plus be able to make your trips affordable enough to extend them as much as possible, buying fresh ingredients and restoring them in your fridge means nothing except you can cook well enough with your stored material, in our website in a close future we will share lots of menus just to explain what we cook and it will be another part of our journey to share with you all great affordable proper foods for overlanding and off-grid cooking, by a link at the end of this post you can access to all our listed menus to be inspired by our cooking experiences while you are travelling with your overlander vehicle,
But for now lets see what we have chosen to able us for great off-road cooking capability,
above is the famous Coleman dual fuel stove with two burner which you mix Coleman liquid fuel with Petrol or even Diesel to fire it up, even some people only use diesel or just petrol for it but if you have access to Coleman fuel too and mix them 50/50 the fire is cleaner and quicker to fire it, getting the fire ready is not very straights forward for first time as you experience little preparation for the stove to be able to see its fire but after couple of trying is nothing major, and we are loving it !
Another great addon for this stove is a portable and folding oven from Coleman and that’s why these two combination together are the best choice for us to be able to cook variety of different foods and cakes while travelling, basically you have a setup to cook almost everything without any need to carry extra gas bottle and chase lots of different gas fittings for different countries and then filling up the gas bottle in the middle of no where.
For very first try we cooked a very good apple cake in the oven and result was very delicious breakfast or evening cake to be served with coffee, we truly surprised how good this oven is working !
This oven is foldable and as you see below you can pack it flat and both together are very good size for such big duty.
Alongside of above setup we got JETBOIL Minimo too, this small gas powered JETBOIL is our quick good to go setup in any case we didn’t want to get to a proper cooking, if we were tired or had no time for preparation this small handy cooking mate will give us vey quick cooking potential,
Specially for a quick morning coffee or making a tea or soup it is ideal speedy device to prepare something fast, the good thing about JETBOIL bottle is it is available all over places no need to worry about gas fitting or finding them as they are standard in any country with a very small bottle to not waste any of our storage area.
Another plus is you can carry even little bigger gas bottles for the JETBOIL, which will last longer for you, so we always try to carry at least two bigger bottles which they don’t occupy much space between our gear.
