step by step build guide for long term overlanding
Here, stage by stage we will explain all details related to the design and build of our overlander Toyota Landcruiser 78, Troopy Camper
We named it CHAAPAAR, which in Iranian/Persian language is name of a horseman and originally came from a postal service system created by Cyrus the great and developed by king Darrius as the very first method of communication and postal service region to region throughout entire Persia.
We have chosen this vehicle after lots of research to know what is the best reliable car for our traveling and at the same time proper size for making it as a full time living space,
Initially we preferred to find 1HZ 6 Cyl strait Diesel motor which they are less sensitive to bad diesel quality and more trouble free based on their simplicity, but in this part of the world hard to find them and newer motors is Turbo Diesel 1VD-FTV on VDJ78 V8 models, little power, better consumption also less pollution, but little more sensitive to bad fuels.
Update:
We drove our VDJ78 entire North and South America, over 80,000 kilometers and many remote bumpy places we encountered, steep and crazy bad quality rods of centra America all passed, I have to say I cannot be more happy how this engine and platform served us, we camped plus 4,800 meters altitude passed 5,100 meters road in Peru and its DPF performed amazingly well and hassle free, we did all the maintenances onetime with good quality oil and diesel tho and we are now so happy we have chosen this motor as it is very very powerful to carry our setup and easy enough for highway overtakes and high mountain power.
Pls follow the design and build progress by each below separated stages and hope you would find some information helpful for your needs.
Cheers / Amir
