When we shipped our troopy in a container to the USA for our PanAmerican trip, the shipping company strapped the tires front and rear to the container, basically the used straps to secure each single tires from moving and at the same time the used each tire as an anchor point for fixing the rig in place too, despite we have several strong chassis anchor points they used tires to secure the movement, still I’m not sure if this is what all the shipping companies always do and they ignore the anchor hooks of each vehicle, anchor points on front chassis and rear bar locations was clear and obvious to use but at the end they used each single tire,
This might be a reason which I ended up changing my front rotors in the USA during our PanAm trip, or it might not be the reason at all ? but next time for the shipping and fixing the troopy in a container I try my best to avoid fixing the rig by its front tires inside the container and only use chassis anchor points for strapping down in place, I have a feeling the extra pressure on each tire during the shipment inside the container might have a bad effect on the front rotors and made them to little missaligh or wrap and finally giving me vibration during down hill braking, basically after couple of kilometers driving when the troopy unloaded from the container, I felt during breaking they get hot too quick and giving me slight vibration under my hand on the steering wheel, this was only during braking and mainly down hill, but later on even by sudden turning on high ways around 85k speed I felt the vibration is under my hand, very tiny bit of vibration even without braking started to show up after couple of days,
So this could be disk brake rotors or wheel alignment,
But because first it was only during braking I knew this could be the rotors and they might need re machining them, at the end I decided to replace the rotors instead of only machining them this will give me a relax mind for future, so we ended up to purchase DBA rotors from Australia through their reseller in USA and finally I installed a new set of DBA rotors and their high performance disk pads, later I checked the wheel alignment and it was all good and align,
All the sudden the vibration totally gone and troopy is braking much more responsive and straight which I’m very happy for this upgrade, some people might even change the brake boosters for better braking but I didn’t feel any needs to do that and Troopy is doing the braking pretty good specially with this new set of rotors and pads,
The disk rotors Part number from DBA is : DBA4790S
and high performance disk pads from same brand is : DB1365XP
For your reference, if you are in west USA the job is done by OLC4x4 in Sonoita and this shop is suggested by lots of my overlander friends which they have 70 series land cruisers, Onur is their mechanic a good expert fellow which he does a good tidy job and he knows landcruiser 70 series very well.
