By now we have been in the states for almost two months and we had to keep heading north to reach the far north of the Canada and the Alaska in the right season. After visiting the Yellowstone, we headed north toward Montana. And wow, Montana captured our heart. We took so many backroads to enjoy the pristine rural life in Montana. Beautiful meadows, horses, ranches that we could imagine ourselves living in them with great snow covered mountains in the background, they were all a feast to our eyes.
As we were heading north to our last stop in the USA, we were looking for great campsites along the way and sometimes a detour to our picked campsite, brings other surprises too. It was late in the afternoon and we were late for setting up camp, as we were heading toward a point on a map, we entered a small town called Anaconda. While we were driving through town and absorbing its vibe, we noticed a cool looking brewery in one of many old buildings of the town. It was way more interesting for us to ignore it, despite our tight time frame to get to the camp. We parked the car and got in for a local brew. The beer and the ambiance of the place were great and we really enjoyed an unexpected cold beer. After having a beer and a short walk around the town, we headed to the camp site and just got to an epic camp spot right before sunset. A great example of a random drives and stops that make a day unforgettable.Â
From here, we started to run out of luck for epic campsites. The closer we were getting to the northern Montana, the options for wild camps were getting less and less and it got worse closer to our last stop, Glacier national Park.
On the other hand for getting into the park and driving the famous Going-to-the-Sun Road in the national park, we needed to reserve our entry and once it was done, we had to camp close to the entry to be there on time for the drive. After checking few wild camp spots that they were all taken, we finally found a great one with a cute neighbor!
The next morning, we started the drive early and what a drive it was!!!! We knew that the sceneries were going to be beautiful but we didn’t expect the scale that we witnessed. That was definitely one of our top 3 epic drives in the whole USA. Below are just few shots of the epic landscape in the Glacier National Park. We did the drive twice, since we wanted to camp in the same spot that we camped the night before and also it was closer to the Canadian border. That was one of those drives that we didn’t mind drive twice in one day!
Our last stop in the USA, was a cute town called Whitefish. It was a charming town with great art galleries and great bars and restaurants. We enjoyed our last craft beer in the USA for now and also some of the cool art galleries.
From there we camped next to Stillwater river to have our last epic camp spot in the USA before heading to the Roosville border.
The following morning, we crossed into British Columbia Canada. The border crossing was smooth and only took us 5 minutes since we were the only one at the border.
The USA was great, a perfect first country to start our overlanding adventure on Pan-American highway. Thanks USA for the great time, we will be back soon!
In the next post, we’ll start exploring Canada! The second country on our route. From here we keep heading north, till we get to the Arctic ocean, at least that is the plan. Till then take care!
