12 Volts Off-grid Hot Water System

From early stages we decided to not carry LPG bottle for cooking even Hot water system, this means only 12 volt system should be found to be able to warm up the water for shower, or maybe diesel, the only system I found in the market is from Australian company named AusJ and they have two sizes 6Ltr and 10Ltr product, you can run them entirely by your 12v system or even 240v, regarding the size and compactness their products was pretty much perfect plus reasonable price range to buy, also lots of Australians are using the AusJ products and they are all happy with good reviews finally I decided to get this system, Still I’m keen to know if in the market there is any other good quality 12V hot water system and readers of this post please send me your suggestions to have other brands in my list of option for the 12v electric hot water systems, also a good compact diesel could be a solution too, but personally I only found this brand to worth to try…

By the way I got the 10Ltr option from AusJ and this fitted amazingly well in my designed cabinet, even with the front plumbing showing in below images/video you see how clean and neat entire setup fitted inside my final cabinet, also a grey water tank fitted so well beside it,(a blue water tank 10Ltr from SCA), the plumbing and wiring is pretty strait forward and Im showing all the fittings you will need for the system by a diagram here.

HOT WATER TANK FOR CAMPERS

Below images showing a before and after picture related to the compartment I planned for placing the Hot water tank also the grey water 10Ltr is from SCA and fitted perfectly in the space and secured by x2 eye bolt in place, the plumbing showing there front of the AusJ system came so neat and tidy just enough to close the cabinet door without hassle which Im so happy with the final result and how this spaced used well. the wires here in this compartment will be related wires for both Ausj Switch and main supply also passed wires for the webasto and cabin LED strips. the top compartment under the sink is onle for passing the waste water and hot and cold run to the sink tap.

I personally have chosen to only use brass and barb fitting also stainless steel flexi tube for both Hon and Cold lines, basically I didn’t want to use any fancy new fittings which you might not find them easy in any remote old style countries, the brass threaded fittings barb fitting and hose clamps are well used everywhere without any problem to find spare this fittings could be replaceable much easier than new style PVC fittings or GJ push fitting etc.. and you easy could find thread seals anywhere and if you do proper thread sealing for these fitting never could leak easy and entire lines will work maintenance free for you for long time

The options for campers Sink/Tap are heaps in the market, but finally found something to have a proper closing door and fold away Hot/Cold tap, is only 120mm depth to be able to even use any extra space under the sink compartment as storage, at the end have to add a wooden top bench and sink together finished the right hand side cabinetry so neat.

UPDATE:

I updated my plumbing comparing above shown setup, basically adding extra shut off cold water valve on the way to AusJ product is a good idea, because without forcing the system to first fill up the Ausj you will be able to shut off its inlet pipe and run your sink and shower head totally independent, in my above previous piping I found that system first will fully fill up the Ausj and when is fully filled, then you will be able to use your sink and shower head cold taps, which is not really a good idea, because most of the time you want only use your cold water without any necessary needs to use the Ausj,

Front image showing extra valve I added on the line to AusJ, this valve is always off except when we plan for having hot water for our shower,

Also the three way valve on the AusJ cold line inlet close to the last T joint, needed extension hose to be able to drain the AusJ conveniently to outside of the Troopy, now we use this extra shown hose to even use any leftover water in the AusJ for washing when our shower is finished or even fully drain it till next fill up, is good idea do not keep water in the AusJ tank for long period of time to keep it clean as possible and any hard water residues to build up in the tank during the time, keep it clean as possible for sure will increase the life time of the system.
